The AAEM professional certification program exists to improve the level of professionalism within the field of emergency management and helps the public readily identify emergency managers who have dedicated themselves to continuing their training and education in service to their communities. Certification also signifies a commitment to continued excellence in professional practice.

In 2024, the AAEM Certification Committee, with the unanimous approval of the AAEM Board of Directors, developed sweeping changes to the program.  Before submitting for a new certification or renewal, applicants must read the updated AAEM Certification Program Rules and Regulations.  This will help you navigate through the changes and the new online submission system.  If you have questions, you may email the Certification Committee at certification@aaem.us.
